Leeds United have seen ‘defensive improvement’ but remains ‘work in progress’ – Paul Robinson

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …

Despite conceding the joint-fourth most goals in the Championship this season, Leeds United have seen a “defensive improvement” from last season, according to Paul Robinson.

Daniel Farke’s side have shipped seven goals in the league and have relied on their consistent goalscoring to get points from games. Their clash against Ipswich sums this up perfectly as the Whites relied on four emphatic goals to make up for three errors at the back.

Leeds have been active in improving their defence this summer, with Joe Rodon, Sam Byram and Ethan Ampadu all brought in to help alleviate their horror defence from last season.

However, Robinson claims that the club has seen a “slight” improvement at the back compared to their relegation-ending campaign last season while suggesting “a couple individual defensive errors” have given the back line an unfair reputation.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think those defensive concerns have been there for a while. I think with Joe Rodon coming into the side is good. He’s still young but has a lot of experience, but still, there were a couple of individual defensive errors.

“There has been a slight defensive improvement since the new managers come in. Farke has come in for a reason, but it’s a work in progress.

“But, there were the two individual errors for goals against Ipswich, but it was not necessarily a poor defensive performance.”

In other Leeds United news, Daniel Farke has “money to burn” as he attempts to bolster his squad.
