Leeds United: Glen Kamara deal with Rangers tipped to effect Borna Barisic move from Ibrox in January transfer window
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …
The avenue to sign Borna Barisic is open for Leeds United after they bought Glen Kamara from Rangers in the summer, according to Paul Robinson.
Football Scotland reported on 12 January that the Whites were mounting a bid to sign the Croatian left-back from Ibrox during the January transfer window, with the full-back spots widely seen as the priority at Elland Road during the January transfer window.
And while Robinson doesn’t think Daniel Farke can employ a “scattergun” approach to trying to bring players in this month the fact that the two clubs have done recent business and it has proven successful it should help clear the way to do more.
Kamara arrived late in the summer window for a fee of £5million [The Athletic, 31 August] and the Finnish international has excelled alongside Ethan Ampadu in midfield.
While the return to form of squad players may be important for Leeds United this month, with Patrick Bamford’s recent scoring run making him feel “like a new signing”, a move for Barisic, 31, could be in the offing thanks to the recent precident.
Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News: “Yeah, full-back’s the area that they need to strengthen. They did the business with Kamara which seems to have worked, he’s slotted into the side particularly well.
“The manager will be careful who he buys. He’s not going to go for a scattergun effect because he can’t, and I don’t think he’s that type of manager anyway.

“He’ll be very careful with who he buys. Patrick Bamford coming into the side that’s been like a new signing anyway, but there’s certain areas of the side, full-back specifically, where he will strengthen.
“With the business that they’ve done before with Rangers it’s an avenue that’s open to them.”
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay now expects another permanent exit from Elland Road to be the outcome after a behind-the-scenes development.
