Leeds United given green signal as Julian Weigl approach made

Leeds United are keen on signing a midfielder this summer and are linked with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Julian Weigl.

Dr Rajpal Brar, an injury expert, has assessed his off-field setbacks to gauge if he’ll be a suitable fit in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke guided Leeds to a 100-point finish in the Championship but wants to strengthen his side ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Weigl to have no issues clearing his pre-transfer medical

The Germany international has had an assortment of minor injuries, but they should not cause any problem with his medical, according to Dr Brar.

This comes after Leeds made an approach to sign Weigl, and he’s understood to be keen on a Premier League move. (Florian Pletternberg, 15 April)

Farke could lure the 29-year-old to Elland Road this summer, leveraging his connections in Germany to strengthen the midfield.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Dr Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said about Weigl: “Weigl has an assortment of more minor injuries, none recurring, so wouldn’t expect musculoskeletal issues on the medical.

He should also not take any longer than the average player to adapt to life in the Premier League, so I see no red flags for Leeds signing him.

He played 33 league games this season, which is another positive.

Leeds United must launch a bid to sign Weigl

Leeds United should now do whatever it takes to sign the German and launch an opening bid for him.

He would be a solid signing for the Elland Road outfit due to his experience, composure and fit in their midfield.

The 29-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, with 6 caps for Germany, brings a calming presence with his impeccable passing ability.

Leeds, aiming to avoid relegation from the Premier League, need a reliable defensive midfielder to complement their high-energy style under Farke.

Weigl’s ability to dictate tempo, break up play, and distribute from deep aligns with Farke’s possession-based system.

His leadership, honed at Borussia Dortmund and Benfica, would stabilise a young squad.

With Gladbach’s contract talks stalling, Leeds could secure him at a reasonable price, adding depth and quality.
