Leeds United fine on cards as Manchester City example made – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.

Dan Plumley has insisted that fines are on the cards for Leeds United after the scuffle that followed the 1-1 draw with Coventry City at Elland Road.

Crysencio Summerville was in the middle of the drama after refusing to shake hands with Bobby Thomas, something which more players later joined in before being dragged apart.

The finance expert admitted that clubs can build up a track record, with the latest example being the £120,000 fine for Manchester City who failed to control their players against Tottenham.

“I think if it carries on that would be the way the league authorities would go,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“We’ve seen over the last few days, that Manchester City were fined £120,000 for failing to control their players, so we are starting to see instances and maybe precedents set.

I’m not necessarily saying every fine will be £120,000, but we’ve seen that recently and you tend to find that repeat occurrences tend to incur fines at some point.

Maybe if it’s a one-off you get the benefit of the doubt, but if it is something that carries on and individual clubs build up a track record, you’re probably likely to see fines.”
