Leeds United financial boost mooted after new Red Bull announcements

Red Bull’s new partnership with Everton could have a positive impact on Leeds United in the future, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley.

The drinks giant, who are part-owners at Elland Road, have struck long-term partnerships with the Toffees and Newcastle United to become both Premier League club’s new official energy drink partner.

While Red Bull’s investment in the Whites has divided the opinion of supporters, Plumley insists that the partnerships with Everton and Newcastle are unlikely to negatively impact Leeds.

“It’s normal in a sense as you have to look at the partnerships in isolation,” Plumley exclusively told MOT Leeds News

“The ones with Newcastle United and Everton are branded drink partnerships as the official energy drink supplier, so it doesn’t really impact their position at Leeds because that is a stake and an investment.

“It’s something that Leeds will be aware of course, but it doesn’t necessarily have any direct impact at Elland Road.

“You could argue there could be positives within that as well from a kind of brand and reputation point of view because obviously, it is more publicity for Red Bull as well.

“That in turn may help Leeds United depending on which way it falls.

“It’s something that we kind of expected from Red Bull anyway, we’ve seen how they’ve grown in the football space and it is a very different set-up to the stake they’ve got at Leeds because it is a partnership rather than an investment stake.

“So it’s probably one that they’ll be keeping an eye on, but it doesn’t really impact what is going on at Leeds too much.”

How much of Leeds United does Red Bull own?

There has been an element of scepticism around Red Bull from Leeds supporters ever since the energy drink giants invested in the Whites and that has only grown after the controversy around the front-of-shirt sponsor [The Athletic, 18 July].

While it will of course raise concerns among some supporters that the company are partnering with other English clubs, it is clear that these new agreements with Everton and Newcastle are different to what has happened at Elland Road.

At worst, the partnerships with the Premier League clubs will have no impact on Daniel Farke’s side and at best, they could benefit financially from the increased brand exposure.
