'Leeds fans should be delighted' – Exclusive: Keith Hackett on EFL update for clash v Barnsley
Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett has said that “Leeds United fans should be delighted” that Jarred Gillett has been appointed by the EFL for the game against Barnsley on Thursday.
It could be the game when Leeds finally secure promotion back to the Premier League and a solid referee can only help in that regard.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Hackett thinks that’s exactly what Leeds have got.
“First of all the Leeds fans should be delighted he’s been appointed,” Hackett said.
“He’s a very competent referee. He’s very experienced and a former FIFA referee. He’s a good decision-maker and very firm.
“That’s why he’s on the game I think, he doesn’t suffer fools gladly. He’s a great communicator and that is something I think we’re lacking in the Premier League at the moment.

“I’ve given the PGMOL a lot of stick so I will give them credit here for recognising the quality of this referee and getting him involved in the Championship – he’s not disappointed.
“With a bit of luck, before the end of the season he will get given a chance in the Premier League.”
Well, that’s great news for Leeds who play the game on Thursday in front of the Sky Sports cameras again.
It’s a high-profile game that will be great for Gillett’s profile, too, and we’re expecting him to let the game flow and referee with an even hand.
It looks like he could be in charge for more Leeds games next season in the Premier League.
