Leeds United expected to push for Joe Rodon transfer from Tottenham even outside Premier League

Leeds United are likely to try to sign Joe Rodon permanently even if they aren’t promoted to the Premier League, Paul Robinson believes.

The on-loan Tottenham defender has been hugely important for Daniel Farke this season, having made 32 appearances so far.

Robinson is so impressed that if the Whites are promoted he sees the Welsh defender as a “must” signing for the to flight, and having been quoted £15million to buy him in the summer [Phil Hay via The Square Ball, 9 November, 18m] the asking price would be a “drop in the ocean”.

He admits that the fee would be a lot for a second-tier side if “the worst case” were to end up happening and the club is left in the Championship, but alternative arrangements would probably be attempted in that instance.

Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News: “In today’s market £15m doesn’t seem over the top does it? It does for a Championship team but not for a Premier League team so a lot depends on where Leeds a going to be next season.

“I’m sure that even in the Championship if the worst case was to happen they’ll still try and do the deal or make that happen in some kind of way because he’s had such a big impact, he’s been a very, very good addition this season.

“Next year in the Premier League he’d be almost a must-signing because of the way that he’s played, the way that he’s fitted in.

“If you’re going to be a Premier League club then £15m for Joe Rodon is going to be a drop in the ocean, it’d be a fantastic signing.”

Rodon tipped for permanent Leeds United move from Tottenham

If there isn’t space for Rodon in the Tottenham squad under Ange Postecoglou then there is surely a deal to be done, especially with money coming in already, but it would clearly be in the interest of everyone at Elland Road to be attempting it as a top flight side.

The form since the start of 2024 has made automatic promotion a real possibility and the 26-year-old’s performances have been a big part of that.

Whether it is Pascal Struijk or international teammate Ethan Ampadu alongside him the Spurs man has been vital and it would be a big blow to see him leave at the end of his loan deal.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay says that a league rival was left with a bitter taste after the 49ers took the direct route to relieve them of a star player.
