Leeds United could renegotiate transfer agreements after £190m reveal in Elland Road documents
Leeds United could renegotiate some of the transfer agreements they have in place after publishing their latest accounts, according to Dan Plumley.
The financial documents revealed that the Whites owe up to £190million in transfer fee instalments owed to other clubs, with £73million of that total due to be paid by the end of June.
The football finance expert revealed that the immediate concern for the club will be on clearing this year’s payments, but he highlighted that some of those agreements may get extended or different terms of negotiation could be agreed upon.
“There are a couple of points of context, one is the situation of being a Premier League club and the money that you then invest in players,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“We know that not all transfer fees are paid in instalments, so there is a kind of natural Premier League feel to that, albeit relegation obviously presented a real financial cause for concern across the board.
“I guess the thing to note there as well is that a lot of these transfer fees and the amounts that are owed tend to be renegotiated sometimes as well.
“Obviously, the immediate concern is clearing within one year, which is the £73million. But even then, some of those will get extended or there will be different terms of negotiation as you move through in real time.

“It is a big figure, it’s a large chunk of the money that they owe. Relegation will have hurt them in that regard in terms of the budgeting requirement and things like that.
“But the reality in real time is a lot of those transfers also get renegotiated and are sometimes kicked a little bit further down the road depending on where the clubs at on the pitch at that point in time.”
Are Leeds United transfer debts cause for concern?
The money Leeds owe to other clubs will no doubt be a cause for concern, but they do have plenty of players out on loan that they could sell for decent transfer fees.
As Plumley points out, there is also scope for the Whites to renegotiate some of those deals and reach an agreement before the deadline.
If they can secure promotion back to the Premier League this season, that could also help their situation, given that higher financial rewards would be on offer at Elland Road.
