Leeds United could have missed out on £130m windfall after developments
Leeds United could have missed out on £130million if they fail to earn promotion back to the Premier League this season, Dan Plumley has said.
Pressure is on Daniel Farke to avoid a third season in the Championship after missing out in the play-off final against Southampton in his first attempt.
Plumley, a football finance expert, admitted that parachute payments do not get near the TV revenue on offer from the Premier League to clubs.
“It’s the missing out bit that is important,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“We need to look at the net difference between what you would get in the Premier League from TV revenue versus parachute payments.
“So, what happens is, the parachute payment is around £43million in year one, circa £100m in TV money from the Premier League, so you get that £60m reduction in year one, then in year two, the parachute payment is around £30m so you get that £70m missing if you were in the Premier League.
Leeds United to miss out on Premier League?
“The longer you go and after year three, the parachute payments drop off completely so over the course of the last couple of years in terms of revenue that Leeds have missed out on, assuming they don’t go up as worst-case scenario, you’re looking in the ballpark of about £130m.”

Farke currently has his Leeds side sitting second in the Championship, but only one point separates them and Burnley, with Sunderland also in the mix.
Away form has been a real concern, with the Whites only leaving Preston and Deepdale with a point after the last-gasp draw on 14 December.
