Leeds United could benefit from Newcastle United situation amid £15m Sean Longstaff report
Leeds United could benefit from Newcastle United keeping a close eye on their Profit and Sustainability margins in their reported pursuit of Sean Longstaff, Paul Robinson has said.
It was reported in the Sunday Mirror print edition (17 March, page 66) that the Whites will try to sign the Magpies midfielder, 26, if they are promoted to the Premier League.
The report added that Leeds would be looking to bring Longstaff to Elland Road for no more than £15million.
It has been reported that Newcastle are one of several clubs wary of falling foul of the Premier League’s PSR rules this summer (TeamTalk, 19 March).
Robinson – speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News – believes that could play into the Whites’ hands.
“It’s decent value for him, I think he’s a good player who’s got Premiership experience but you wonder why Newcastle would be willing to sell,” Robinson said.
“Newcastle are going to find themselves in a situation where they find trading hard, I mean we saw in the last window the richest club in the world were looking at selling their three best players.
“But I think selling homegrown will be the way a lot of clubs go when they look to sell players, when they look to raise funds.
“He’d fall into that category and Leeds could benefit from that among other clubs.”
Will Leeds United make a move for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff?
As with so many rumours doing the rounds at Leeds right now, it is hard to know which to take seriously and which to ignore.
The truth of the matter is that until we know which league Leeds are going to be in next season, most rumours are probably just that.

Having said that, the Longstaff reports you feel might carry some weight. He’d be a good, solid addition to the engine room if Leeds go up, while Newcastle would pocket decent money they can class as 100% profit on their balance sheets.
So, it might end up being a good deal for all involved, especially if Leeds do manage to get over the line in the race for promotion.
