Leeds United could be set for six-figure FA windfall
Leeds United will earn six figures if they simply beat Harrogate Town in the FA Cup third round, Dan Plumley has said.
The Whites will entertain their local rivals for the first time competitively on 11 January at Elland Road, with the winners getting £115,000.
Plumley, a football finance expert, shared the money on offer for clubs like Leeds, saying a decent cup run can earn them up to £1million.
“It tends to be fairly set,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“You sometimes get a little bit of a boost, but it’s not huge money either way.
“If you look at the numbers, it’s £2million if you win the whole competition and then there is prize money along the way for little bits and bobs and winning individual ties.
“So, if you look at round three, the winners get £115,000 if you get through that tie, but you get £25,000 if you lose.

“So either way, you have that in the bank but if you get through, it’s £115,000 and then it adds on to it from there in the latter stages.
“It’s not huge, huge money but still, a decent cup run can bring you in £1m or so in the season.
“For any club, that is particularly good money, those lower down and linked to attendances where the pot is split will benefit financially.”

While promotion to the Premier League remains the ultimate goal this season, Paraag Marathe and the 49ers Enterprises wouldn’t turn their nose up at a cup run.
With money on the line, that added revenue can always help a club, especially starting next month in the January transfer window and the third round.
