Leeds United can use loan saga to their advantage amid firesale update
Leeds United can use their loanee situation to their advantage amid an expected £100million-plus firesale this summer, according to Dan Plumley.
The Whites were beaten in the Championship playoff final at Wembley meaning they missed out on promotion to the Premier League, and reports suggest they must now sell £100million-plus worth of talent to help balance the books.
Football finance expert Plumley believes that the £100m+ figure is inflated but admits they will need to raise funds, and when asked how the future of the team’s loanees could help or hinder the situation he believes that it could be used to their advantage at Elland Road.
“It works both ways doesn’t it,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“We know that it’s obviously not the ideal scenario of course, but the loan market is really useful for that type of stuff and dependent on the league that you’re operating in, and depending on the financial constraints in that league, given the two different sets of regulations in Leeds United’s case, you can use the loan market to your advantage.
“It can sometimes be a hindrance as you said, but it is that option and does give you a little bit of another way to run the business whenever you’re in that league.
“So pros and cons as always, but you can use it to your advantage sometimes as much as at other times it can be a potential hindrance.”
Leeds United can save millions in wages with loan deals
In an ideal world, Leeds would be playing Premier League football and any of the stars they have out on loan that Daniel Farke didn’t want in the squad could have been sold for cash.
But unfortunately, that isn’t the scenario the club find themselves in right now, and with reports that some of the loanees can potentially leave without a fee and just their wages covered it means there will still be a cash hole in their books.

However, saving millions of pounds in wages by those players leaving again certainly helps the situation, and there is still a possibility of bringing those who don’t leave back into the fold instead of spending money on new players.
It’s not ideal, but Leeds have got options that they can make work. It’s unlikely to mean they will be able to keep all of their top stars, but it will mean they don’t have to sell them all.
