Leeds United can fast-track £50m+ windfall after Raphinha saga – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.
Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United can now get the money expected from the Raphinha quicker than expected after worrying reports in Spain.
Ara reported on 10 October that Barcelona still owed the Whites £53.6million for the Brazilian, but that the club has exercised their right to collect through a bank, which advances the amount in exchange for interest.
Plumley admitted there was risk and reward to this decision, as Leeds will get the money quicker, but will have to cover some of the cost through that interest.

“That’s where there are variations and ways around it,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“You can look to do it that way and we’ve seen clubs sign all manners of agreements in terms of advancing payments or borrowing from third parties using television deals, or expected transfer fees.
“We know it happens nowadays because the clubs need the cash and they need it right now, so again, it’s that kind of balancing act of risk and reward in that.

“Of course, the reward in that is that you get the money quicker than you expect, but the cost attached is that you’re going to have to cover some of that in interest.
“It’s just that balance, and it’s not just Leeds United, we’ve seen a number of clubs follow that principle, simply to aid short-term cash flow, which is still very much the name of the game.”
