Leeds United and 49ers Enterprises set for two legal cases at same time – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.

Dan Plumley has insisted that two cases could run side-by-side for Leeds United and the 49ers Enterprises, as they will look to utilise their resource envelope.

The Whites are set to appeal their case against Jean-Kevin Augustin again, with a hearing already this month [AP] and a £100million compensation push against Everton is on the cards too [Daily Mail].

The finance expert admitted that while that can be costly, if the club believe they have a case on both fronts they can carve up their resources where they see fit.

“Definitely a busy time for the legal team,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“It becomes a resource envelope for the club internally if you focus on that particular function.

There’s nothing stopping multiple cases running alongside, it’s the resource the club has to deploy, or employ, to be able to service that work, but if you think you’ve got a case on both fronts and you feel like they are both worth fighting for, then it’s a carving up of the resource envelope.

There might be a cost to that internally, but on a cost-benefit analysis, if you’re looking at what it might bring and the fallout from it, particularly with the Everton compensation would be quite significant, it’s probably something that you would be looking to explore and push on.

It’s likely that they will run side-by-side if that is the case and it’s going to be one for the legal team to fight and it will be the resource envelope that is there for the club to deploy where they see fit.”
