Leeds United ace Illan Meslier ‘open to criticism’ after what he was seen doing after Sunderland incident
Dan Bardell believes Leeds United fans will slam Illan Meslier after he was spotted laughing with Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris after his error.
The Frenchman made a bizarre mistake which allowed the Black Cats to score a last-minute equaliser against the Whites on 4 October.
Whites’ supporters were rightly fuming with the shot-stopper and their feelings were only worsened when the Frenchman was seen smiling and laughing with his former boss after the full time whistle.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks the 24-year-old has left himself open to negativity with his post-match antics.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Bardell said: “It won’t endear him to an increasingly frustrated fanbase, it’s not something I like to see myself either.
“He is a good keeper, particularly at Championship level, but you can’t be pictured laughing after a mistake of that magnitude.
“I feel for him to an extent, but you are leaving yourself open to criticism with that reaction.“
Illan Meslier slammed for Leeds United error v Sunderland
Meslier stood and waited to catch the ball but somehow managed to stand in the wrong spot and miss the ball which saw it roll into the empty net.
This went down as a Junior Firpo own goal, leaving the left back enraged as he stormed down the tunnel on his own after the game.
Considering it was the goalkeeper who had made the error, it was a surprise to see him stick around the pitch at the Stadium of Light to have a laugh and joke with Le Bris.
This was bizarre and truly unprofessional which certainly hasn’t gone down well with the Elland Road faithful, unsurprisingly.
Hopefully, the international break will give supporters the opportunity to cool off and rebuild their faith in the keeper ahead of a clash against.
