Leeds buy-back clause claim made amid Joe Gelhardt to Hull latest – Exclusive

Joe Gelhardt looks all but certain to leave Leeds United this summer.

While most of the focus will be on incomings at Elland Road, plenty of attention will be needed when it comes to those departing this summer.

Largie Ramazani is one who has been mooted for an exit, though the general feeling is that Gelhardt will be the first one out of the door.

After a loan spell at Hull City last season, his future at Leeds United looks bleak, with a summer exit now looking like the most likely outcome.

Gelhardt set for Leeds United exit

Given the fact that Gelhardt didn’t fit in Daniel Farke’s plans for the Championship campaign, it seems highly unlikely that he will do so in the Premier League.

Hull had expressed an interest in signing him permanently, and Paul Robinson has urged the Whites to include a buy-back clause in any potential deal.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “He’s a player that I like, but he hasn’t been given his opportunity at Leeds.

And I think with Daniel Farke in charge at Leeds, going into next season, the fact that he’s played so little football since Farke’s been there, the writing’s on the wall for him.

“And I think for the player as well, I think for him, he’ll push the move through wherever it is, whether it’s Hull or another Championship club or a bottom-half Premier League club, where he can get his opportunity.

“He’s a player that I like, but I don’t think Leeds can come under a fee of four or five million. It will be an initial down payment with add-ons should he reach a certain level. But he’s a player that I certainly would put a buy-back clause in because he’s one that could come back and haunt you.”

Farke set to make ruthless calls at Elland Road

Leeds need depth in the Premier League, but they need players capable of making the step up when required, and the likes of Gelhardt simply won’t be able to.

His exit would not only be the best thing for his own career, but it would also raise some funds for Leeds to strengthen elsewhere, ahead of their return to the top flight.
