Leeds to beat Tottenham to Walker-Peters transfer thanks to one factor – Exclusive

Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters will be on the move this summer, amid links to Leeds United and Tottenham.

Jake Bijol recently became the Whites’ second signing of the summer transfer window, though their business will be far from over.

Leeds United will be looking to conclude several more deals before their Premier League campaign gets underway, and have been linked with a move for Southampton’s Walker-Peters, who seems unlikely to be sticking around following their relegation.

Tottenham have also shown an interest in their former player, but Leeds may just hold the advantage in the race for the in-demand defender’s signature.

Walker-Peters to be attracted by first-team football

Having impressed for the Saints in the Premier League, Walker-Peters will not want to spend the next season sitting on the bench, which is what could happen if he makes the move to Spurs.

With Junior Firpo leaving Leeds, Daniel Farke will be looking to sign someone to replace him, and Paul Robinson thinks that Walker-Peters is the perfect option.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “He’ll have a number of options. He’s put himself in a really good position by being on a free at this stage of his career.

“He’s had a really good season. Southampton were poor, but he and Aaron Ramsdale were probably the two standout players.

“I think he’s given himself a real opportunity now of being the master of his own destiny as to where he wants to go. I think the important thing is he just doesn’t go into a squad and be a bit-part player, but he goes into a team where he gets the opportunity to play every week.

“That could be Leeds, and it’d be a very good signing. With Firpo looking like he’s moving on, there’s an immediate opportunity to get in the team, though Tottenham will also be in for him, and it may depend on regular football.”

Leeds far from finished with summer business

Signing a striker was the priority at the start of the window, and it will not have changed.

That, and a new goalkeeper, will be crucial for Leeds to have any hope of staying in the Premier League next season, and breaking the trend set by the last six promoted teams.
