Leeds: ‘No problem’ with Georginio Rutter despite ‘dragging off’ verdict – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …

There’s “no harm” in how Georgnio Rutter expresses himself on the pitch, but he could be at risk of being dragged off by Daniel Farke, according to Paul Robinson.

The Frenchman has had an excellent start to the season and has frequently dazzled the Elland Road faithful with his excellent flair and skills, seen most recently in his performance against Watford.

Farke was critical of Rutter after the match, however. As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post (23 September), the boss said Rutter should be “focused on playing pragmatic football” despite the 3-0 victory.

Robinson has come to Rutter’s defence, noting that fans want to be entertained by exciting players. However, he warned the 21-year-old that he risks being taken off the field by his manager if he attempts such trickery in the wrong stages of a game.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “If you’re 3-0 up you can express yourself how you want to if you’re doing your job for the team and putting the work rate in.

“We always say the minimum requirement is maximum effort. If you’re getting that and the team’s winning, I don’t think there’s any harm in doing that whatsoever.

“Rutter is a quality player and fans go to football to be entertained. Quite often we we’re not seeing the entertainment side of football because it is so strategic. It is so well thought out and there are so many game plans that the managers set out to stop opponents and that the flair players at times are muted by being put into a certain role that the manager wants.

“For me, I enjoyed it. To be honest, I like it when Leeds are two or three nil up and he’s doing that, no problem! If they’re two or three nil down, the manager would be dragging Rutter off, I tell you!”

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that big European clubs have been keeping tabs on a Whites player for a while and are still willing to sign him.
