Leeds make move to sign James McAtee in ‘huge signing’ from Man City

Paul Robinson has told Leeds United to pull off a “real coup” by signing Manchester City’s James McAtee in January.

The Whites have already made a “bold attempt” to sign the 22-year-old midfielder, as per CaughtOffside, with the likes of West Ham, Celtic, Lille, and Feyenoord all interested ahead of the transfer window.

It is understood that Man City would be open to selling McAtee for a fee potentially exceeding £20million, which is why Robinson believes a loan deal would be far more likely.

Speaking exclusive to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “Massively. He’d be a huge signing for Leeds but I don’t think they’ll get him. There are other teams who are in for him, such as West Ham and Fulham. A lot of Premier League teams are taking a look.

“Leeds have thrown their hat in the ring and I think that would be a great signing. If they can pull it off, it would be a real coup. I can’t see it being a permanent signing in January. It’s more likely to be a loan.

Leeds United to sign James McAtee from Manchester City?

“Manchester City have proven before that they will sell their own players, though. Just look at Cole Palmer. One reason is for PSR, and the second is that they realise their youngster need to play.

“James McAtee is no different to that. He had two great spells at Sheffield United and, even with all the injuries that Man City have, he still hasn’t had an opportunity in the first team this season.”

McAtee has only played six senior matches for Man City since returning to the Etihad from his loan spell in the summer, having impressed at Bramall Lane in the Championship.

Leeds will be facing plenty of competition for the player’s signature this January, but it would send a real promotion message to the Championship if he came to Elland Road.
