'Leeds have an advantage' – Exclusive: Pundit claims Bielsa could seal deal for £10.5m-rated ace

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that Robin Koch is a “top player” and that Marcelo Bielsa could swing a move to Leeds for the highly-rated centre-back.

Robinson also said that the £10.5m valuation that’s being talked about is a “very good price”.

Victor Orta confirmed that Leeds had been looking at Koch back in January and said while it would be tough to convince him to move to the Championship, that could change if Leeds were promoted. [Yorkshire Evening Post]

Koch’s price has reportedly plummeted as well, almost 50% to just £10.5m according to O Jogo, because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “I’ve seen him play. He’s got a couple of caps for Germany last year.

“He’s highly rated and a top player and if they’re talking about £10m for him it’s a very good price.

“I think Leeds will have competition, I think West Ham and Tottenham will look at him. But Leeds have an advantage. Okay, they might not be able to compete with Tottenham in terms of quality of squad, finances or wages they’d pay, but they’ve got Bielsa which is a huge pull.

“You look at how well-respected managers are around the world and quite often a young player will choose to go and play for a manager who will develop him into a top player.

Look at the Ben White situation. Leeds might not be the leaders to sign him in the summer but with Bielsa at the club it gives them a chance.”

If Leeds get promoted to the Premier League then playing under Bielsa will be a big pull for players.

One disadvantage that Leeds have is that they can’t offer Champions League football yet and if a big club comes in for Koch it could be tough to land him.

It’s essential that Leeds aim high though and at the price quoted, Koch would be a steal.
