Leeds face huge Daniel James exit risk, Premier League transfer on the cards

Leeds United are at huge risk of losing Dan James if they are not promoted this season, according to former Whites midfielder David Norris.

James has been in blistering form of late, and was the star of the show in a vital win at Elland Road as he struck against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night [10 December].

Former Whites midfielder Norris, speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, admitted he believes James will be back in the Premier League next season whether or not Daniel Farke’s side are there.

“I don’t see him going in January, but I would have him down as one of those mid-range Premier League-quality players who several clubs would happily take in the right circumstances,” Norris said.

“Maybe the fact his form throughout his career has been a bit inconsistent and he’s moved about a bit, that could work in Leeds’ favour to more easily keep him.

“It’ll be interesting to see who shows an interest in him soon, but I think he’ll be in the Premier League whether Leeds are or not.”

Leeds United must hang onto Dan James

James is now 27 and approaching the prime years of his career, which he will aim to spend at the top table.

The Welsh international is still playing on the contract he initially signed upon his arrival at Leeds, signed in 2021, running until 2026.

He has so far played fewer than 900 minutes of league action in 2024-25, but has registered six goal contributions which are coming at just the right time for his club.
