Leeds decide where they want to send Joe Gelhardt on loan in January – Exclusive
Leeds United would prefer not to send Joe Gelhardt out on loan to a Championship rival in January, MOT Leeds News understands.
The 22-year-old has yet to start a Championship game so far this season, with Daniel Farke opting for Mateo Joseph or Joel Piroe through the middle.
MOT Leeds News previously reported that the striker wants to seal a loan move away from Elland Road in the winter transfer window, with QPR the most recent team to be linked [Footbal League World].
The Championship side has been credited with interest in Gelhardt but MOT Leeds News now understands that the Whites would prefer to send him to a club outside of the Championship.
Joe Gelhardt set to seal loan move away from Leeds United
Gelhardt’s last minutes under Farke came during the 0-0 draw with Bristol City in October, with the manager revealing that he faced a late call for the trip to Millwall last month [Yorkshire Evening Post].
However, since then, the Whites have played six matches and the wantaway striker has not appeared on the bench once while Patrick Bamford has been involved with limited minutes.
The young striker has already been loaned out to the Championship, having joined Sunderland in January 2023, where he played 20 matches, but Leeds appear to be against a similar move ahead of the next transfer window.
He has only played 16 times and scored once since arriving back from the Stadium of Light in the summer of 2023, with the player continuing to fall further down Farke’s pecking order at Elland Road.

It is understood that Leeds may not have a choice over where Gelhardt ends up in January but the preference would be to find a destination outside of the Championship.
Until the transfer window opens on 1 January, it is impossible to say where the 22-year-old will end up but it seems Elland Road will not be his home for the second half of the campaign.
