Keith Hackett rages at ‘disgraceful’ Chris Kavanagh mistake after Liverpool vs Leeds controversy

Leeds United should have conceded a penalty in their clash with Liverpool, Keith Hackett has said.

Leeds held Liverpool to a 3-3 draw last time the sides met, but it was the Reds who had the early advantage at Anfield on 1 January.

Arne Slot‘s side dominated possession and looked dangerous, including when Hugo Ekitike tried to drive his way into the box in the 14th minute.

Jaka Bijol was all over the French striker, and the ex-PGMOL chief believes that the Whites star should have been punished by Chris Kavanagh despite his opponent staying on his feet.

What did Hackett say about Liverpool vs Leeds penalty incident?

Hackett was outraged that the Peacocks did not concede a penalty for the challenge on Ekitike in the first-half of the contest.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “How is it possible that an experienced FIFA and Premier League referee can see and fail to recognise that this sustained holding offence is not punished

“It is frankly a disgrace that we are allowing these types of holding offences to go unpunished!

“We want to watch football not rugby.

“The PGMOL and the Premier League need to address this problem, which is out of control.”

What Leeds need to do in the second-half vs Liverpool

For starters, Daniel Farke‘s side need to make sure that they do not concede a goal, because the Reds look like they will go on to score a bucket-load if they get one.

They need to find a way into the game, perhaps by bringing Dominic Calvert-Lewin off the bench as soon as possible.

Lukas Nmecha was handed a start by Farke over the Englishman, who has proven prolific in recent weeks, with seven goals in his last six matches.

The Reds have had the lion’s share of the momentum so far, and something needs to change, otherwise they will surely break through.

The LS11 outfit will be happy going into the break with the score level, but it is a precarious position to be in, given the nature of the Anfield crowd and how the champions can come into games in the second-half.

They will hope to hold on, and hit on the counter-attack and take all three points to continue their brilliant recent run.
