Keith Hackett: Leeds United could launch Victor Orta inquiry after incident v Brentford
We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett to the MOT Leeds News team. Each week, Hackett will discuss the big moments from the latest Leeds United games and deliver his verdict on whether his successors got their calls right or wrong…
Keith Hackett suggests Leeds United may launch an internal investigation into Victor Orta’s behaviour during their 2-2 draw with Brentford at Elland Road.
The Leeds director of football was captured on cameras ranting and raving at an unidentified fan in the stands after Patrick Bamford’s late equaliser on Sunday (5 December).
Former FIFA-listed official Hackett suggests the FA are unlikely to get involved, with a club-led inquiry more likely.

“It was unseemly,” Hackett told MOT Leeds News. “I think that is something that probably needs to be handled internally by the club, rather than the FA.
“But these sort of actions can incite reactions that are unsavoury and therefore could create a problem. They didn’t unfortunately, but they tarnish the image of the game.
“If the FA were to get involved, they’d probably say ‘give us your observations’. But people have to understand, providing it’s not abusive, derogatory or inflammatory, fans pay their money and are allowed to shout.”

Late drama
Orta’s actions came about after another frantic finish to a Leeds game last week.
The Whites picked up four points from their two fixtures last week as Raphinha’s 93rd-minute penalty secured a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Tuesday (7 December).
Just five days later, Bamford was back from a lengthy lay-off to equaliser against the Bees and spark pandemonium at Elland Road, with Orta serving up more drama in the stands.
