Keith Hackett: Leeds could get letter from FA after Angus Kinnear programme notes

We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett to the MOT Leeds News team. Each week, Hackett will discuss the big moments from the latest Leeds United games and deliver his verdict on whether his successors got their calls right or wrong…

Keith Hackett has insisted that Leeds United could receive a letter from the FA this week after Angus Kinnear’s programme notes against West Ham.

The Whites chief executive shared that the club no longer want to be officiated by opposition managers after Pascal Struijk lost his appeal.

That, of course, refers to Jurgen Klopp, but Hackett believes that it could question the integrity of the referee.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Hackett said, “I think ultimately, it’s important that CEO’s go through the right process of appeals.

“I said it was a red card, at the end of the day, the FA usually scan what is written and the game is about passion. People in high positions have got to take care with what they say.

“If he infringes the integrity of the referee, they may be getting another letter from the FA.”

Shocking.

The fact that this has even come to this is bad enough.

Even though Struijk’s suspension is now over and he is available for selection by Marcelo Bielsa, it may not be fully over.

It is assumed that a letter from the FA would usually involve some sort of charge to the club and just Kinnear himself.

In hindsight, the CEO shouldn’t be taking cheap shots and risking anyone’s integrity, but the argument can also be made that Klopp should have been nowhere near the officials or Harvey Elliott at the time.

There will be outrage should something come of this from the Whites fanbase, but there would surely be a plan in place to argue any potential charge further down the line.

Time will tell, but given our long history, it would be no surprise to see that latter and potential charge arrive at the front door of Elland Road.
