Keith Hackett calls for blanket ban after Daniel Farke scenes in Leeds United defeat vs Man City
Keith Hackett has called for blanket bans to be issued on managers entering the field of play after what he saw from Daniel Farke against Manchester City.
Leeds United fell to a 1-0 defeat against Pep Guardiola’s side on Saturday in a game in which the Whites could have snatched an unlikely point.
Overall, Leeds’ performance perhaps deserved more than what they got in the end, and Farke will be frustrated they could not get a result.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s early miss left Farke in shock, and towards the end of the game, emotions appeared to still be flared.
Former PGMOL chief Hackett has now reacted to the scenes at the full-time whistle at Elland Road.

Why has Keith Hackett called for a blanket ban?
As the final whistle was blown, Farke did his rounds by shaking hands with Guardiola, but quickly after, he was seen sprinting over to referee Peter Bankes.
The German appeared to be upset with the officials, and in the end, the Leeds manager was issued with a red card for his actions.
The scenes have left Hackett frustrated, and he has now suggested that instances of this nature should be prevented with an updated ruling.
Hackett exclusively told MOT Leeds News: “Surely the time is right for the Premier League to issue a blanket ban on managers entering the field of play to confront the referee, particularly when thirty minutes after the conclusion of the game they can knock on the referees’ dressing room door and seek a discussion with the team of officials.”
So far, we have not heard from Farke about the incident, but there have been comments from those within the Leeds camp.
Will Farke be on the touchline vs Sunderland?
Farke could now face a touchline ban by the FA for his sending off, and based on previous incidents this season, he could actually be on the sidelines for Tuesday.
When Arne Slot was shown a red card last season after the Merseyside derby for confronting the referee, he was not issued his punishment until two weeks later.
He was then handed a two-match touchline ban.
Due to the process for managers being different from players, the Dutchman was allowed to remain in the dugout until the ban was issued.
- If following a similar timeline, Farke could find out his punishment before facing Crystal Palace (a) on 14 March
- If not, then before Brentford (h) on 21 March could be when he discovers his sanction
Of course, Farke could also avoid a ban entirely, as not all manager red cards result in that punishment.
Vitor Pereira was sent off earlier in the season for Wolves for angrily kicking a ball in the dugout but only received a fine.
That process also took two weeks, so signs point towards Farke’s involvement against the Black Cats.
However, the incident against Man City was more akin to Slot’s than Pereira’s, so that could be a better precedent for expectation.
