Kees Smit ‘set to clear medical’ as Leeds United make move

Leeds United have been linked with AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smith, who could be on the move this summer.

Dr Rajpal Brar, an injury expert, has assessed his fitness and age-related factors ahead of a potential Premier League move.

Last season, the 19-year-old made 18 Eredivisie appearances and shone in the recently concluded Under-19 Euros.

Smith expected to clear medical

The Dutchman is not expected to face any issues clearing his pre-transfer medical this summer, according to Dr Brar.

Leeds United are said to be keeping a close eye on Smith, but the likes of Bayern Munich, Tottenham and Real Madrid are also keen on the teenager. [TBR, 3 July]

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Dr Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said about Smit: “He did not face any injury issues last season and I reckon, he should be clearing his medical this summer.

“Given his age and lack of senior experience, Leeds may have to monitor his game time initially as he adapts to life in the Premier League.

“Having him play reserve matches in the first few months would certainly be a good way to go about it.”

Leeds United must seriously consider signing Smit

Smit represents an exciting signing for Leeds United due to his proven talent and long-term potential.

With 31 senior appearances, the teenager has already shown he can compete at a high level, further evidenced by his Player of the Tournament award at the Under-19 Euros.

His ability to play as a defensive or attacking midfielder offers tactical flexibility for Daniel Farke’s squad, which needs midfield reinforcement.

At Elland Road, Smit could secure regular playing time, unlike at bigger clubs like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, fostering his development alongside young talents like Harry Gray.

His signing aligns with Leeds’ strategy of blending youth and experience to build a competitive future.
