Kalvin Phillips tipped to secure La Liga move after £192,000-a-week Leeds United exit reveal – pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson can see Kalvin Phillips playing for a club in La Liga if he was to be made available by Leeds United.
Last week (20 March), The Times reported that Aston Villa are in the hunt to sign Phillips, 26, this summer and are ready to pay £60million for the England midfielder.
It is understood that Villa are also prepared to offer Phillips a deal worth a staggering £192,000-a-week, putting them ahead of West Ham and Newcastle in the race to sign him.

However, Robinson feels that a move to Villa Park would be a sideways move if Phillips was to go there in the summer and that the motivation behind the move would be solely down to the finances.
Robinson suggests that Phillips is more than capable of playing for a club that’s regularly competing in the Champions League and for silverware and that a club in Spain may be a better option.
“I think Phillips would be tempted by ambition rather than money,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“I think that wherever he goes, he’s going to want to win trophies, he’s going to want to play in the Champions League and he’s going to want to play at the top level.

“You might get that with Aston Villa in the future but you’re not going to be near that in the next two or three seasons.
“I suspect he’ll get more interesting offers if he were to leave Leeds but with Aston Villa, I just can’t see how that move would go through.
“It would be a sideways move and would purely be a financial move.
“If it’s known that Leeds will sell him, the top four or five clubs in the country will be having a look at him.
“I think he’d suit playing in La Liga as well, he’d suit the Spanish game with the way he plays and his style of football.
“There’ll be a lot bigger football clubs – Champions League clubs – who will come in for Kalvin Phillips this year if he were to be available.”
In other Leeds United news, Graham Smyth admits it’s “very possible” this star player will quit Elland Road within months.
