Junior Firpo exit stance emerges as Leeds United transfer news slammed
Paul Robinson does not believe the reports suggesting that Junior Firpo is vying for the Leeds United exit door this summer.
The Leeds full-back is willing to lower his wages to seal a move to Real Betis, according to ABC [16 July], with the two clubs already holding talks about the player leaving on a loan deal.
After becoming a regular figure in Daniel Farke’s team last season, Firpo has now entered the final 12 months of his contract and could leave Elland Road as a free agent next summer.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “If he’s that desperate to leave the club, Leeds won’t want to keep a player like that. I don’t believe it is true for one minute but if it is, the club will thank him for his time and go their separate ways.
“I don’t think it will be the situation with him, but if the club can get a fee for him now and he’s made it clear he wants to leave, there’s value in getting a fee for him. There’s a deal to be done.”
Junior Firpo exit links slammed at Leeds United
The Dominican Republic international has experienced a mixed spell in West Yorkshire since arriving from Barcelona in the summer of 2021.
Firpo struggled to get going at the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign as his injury problems continued to plague him. However, he started to work his way back into the side and became a key player towards the end.

The 27-year-old finished the Championship season with seven assists to his name, almost helping Leeds to secure promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Last summer, fans would have been very happy to see the back of Firpo, but now, he has become a fan favourite and even has his own chant among the fans at Elland Road.
