Joel Piroe frustrated at Leeds United after what Daniel Farke keeps doing to him – expert

Joel Piroe will become increasingly frustrated at Leeds United if he is utilised as a substitute or out of position, according to David Norris.

Piroe has been used by Daniel Farke primarily as an impact sub at the beginning of this season – starting just one of four matches – with Mateo Joseph favoured as a lone striker.

The Dutchman, who signed for £12m from Swansea City a year ago, has tended to come on out wide or in a number 10 role rather than arguably his strongest position as a centre-forward and fired a crucial goal off the bench to seal last weekend’s win over Hull City.

Norris, speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News once more about Piroe, believes the annoyance will build in his camp if things don’t change: “I see Piroe eventually coming in as a main man, whether that’s in place of Joseph or alongside him.

“He’ll be frustrated, and that will carry on as long as he is being used how he is. He’s done well coming off the bench, and if he keeps producing, I think he’ll become less accepting of the role he plays.

“Then it would be up to him how he channels the frustration – but I do eventually see him as a starter.”

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke in forward dilemma

From the outside, at least, it looks as if Farke does have a dilemma for Leeds United when it comes to his attacking outlets, but he appears confident in what he’s doing.

Joseph scored his first goal of the season against Hull and will take confidence from that, as well as what the boss has already given him; Patrick Bamford’s days look to be numbered unless he settles as a bit-part player.

Then there’s Joe Gelhardt, who has barely kicked a ball in anger this season so far, despite showing previously his mettle for the Championship. Willy Gnonto has been successfully trialled as a central creative player, which may negatively affect Piroe even further.

Farke has the smallest squad in the division with just 23 recognised first-teamers, and is light in several areas if injuries occur throughout the season, but unfortunately for Piroe, they are well stocked at the moment for a system which operates with one up front.

Given the considerable sum for which they captured him for South Wales last year, there cannot sustainably be a much longer period of time that goes by without Piroe either starting regularly again, or giving Farke’s door a stern knock.
