Joe Rodon to Leeds United transfer update as problem emerges already

Dan Bardell believes that Leeds United will struggle to sign Joe Rodon from Tottenham Hotspur this summer after his loan spell ended.

The Welshman had a great season at the heart of the Whites’ defence last season but has returned to North London after missing out on promotion.

Alan Nixon has reported (23 June) that Spurs could look to move him on to Southampton as they chase one of their stars this summer.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested it may be a struggle for Leeds to get him back citing the nature of loan deals as the reason.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Bardell said: “It’s the problem with all loans.

If you get a good loan, they will form an integral part of your squad and the next year there is no guarantee that you’ll get them back so your squad has gone backwards before the summer has even started.

Spurs will be keen to get money for him, that’s the way it works unfortunately for Leeds. He’s a player who has performed well at the higher end of the Championship so he will have interest from the bottom end of the Premier League.

It is going to be tough for Leeds to get him back next season which means that straight away they’ve got to fill a position that they had sorted last season.

Leeds United want Joe Rodon return

There’s no doubt that Rodon was superb for Leeds forming great partnerships in defence no matter who he played with.

Whether it was Pascal Struijk or Ethan Ampadu the Whites were solid at the back which was the base of their excellent season.

It appears that the financial situation at Elland Road is much improved this summer after an initial fear that several stars would be forced out.

With the incoming ownership and sponsorship from Red Bull, Leeds has been handed a boost which may make transfer dealings easier.

There is a chance that Rodon would want to return to play under Daniel Farke after an excellent season in the Championship last season.

With that being said, a move to the Premier League would be attractive to him, especially after a somewhat failed spell with Tottenham.

It would be especially bitter to see him go to Southampton after the Wembley defeat but fans will have to wait for an update this summer.
