Joe Gelhardt makes Leeds United loan decision ahead of January transfer window – Sources

Joe Gelhardt wants to seal a loan move away from Leeds United during the January transfer window, MOT Leeds News understands.

Daniel Farke has yet to hand the 22-year-striker a Championship start this season, only making the starting XI once in the 3-0 EFL Cup defeat to Middlesbrough in August.

While Farke has revealed that a late call will need to be made before Leeds’ trip to Millwall on Wednesday 6 November [Yorkshire Evening Post], MOT Leeds News understands that the striker has become frustrated with his lack of game time.

Gelhardt has been on the bench for fixtures against Sunderland and Bristol City but was nowhere to be seen as Plymouth Argyle travelled to Elland Road on Saturday 2 November.

Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe are both above him in the pecking order, and when Patrick Bamford returns from injury, there will be another player for him to battle for a spot on the bench.

Gelhardt was loaned out from Elland Road before, moving to Sunderland on a six-month loan during the 2022/23 campaign, where he played 20 games before returning.

Since then, the striker has just 16 appearances to his name, often being overlooked last season by the manager and only accumulating two Championship starts.

It is unclear which team or division Gelhardt would join to gain more minutes, but MOT Leeds News understands that the player has already made his decision ahead of 1 January.

He has just nine minutes of league football under his belt this term, clearly leading to frustration emerging at Elland Road.

In other Leeds United news, Daniel Farke must make a tough decision over Manor Solomon ahead of the trip to Millwall.
