Jesse Marsch could offload Leeds United ace Mateusz Klich amid transfer rumbling – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Jesse Marsch might look to offload Mateusz Klich with the Leeds United midfielder linked with a return to the Netherlands, according to Paul Robinson.

Polish news outlet Meczyki reported on 3 August that Klich, 32, is “determined” to quit Leeds this summer due to concerns about his game-time at Elland Road affecting his chances of a spot in Poland’s World Cup squad this summer.

It is understood that Utrecht is a potential destination for the Whites midfielder, who was loaned to the Dutch side during his debut season for the Yorkshire giants in 2017/18.

Canal+ reporter Łukasz Wiśniowski had also been quoted by Polish site Transfery that Jesse Marsch has “made it clear that Klich will not be in the first squad and will only supplement the team“.

Wiśniowski added that Klich took that decision personally.

Robinson can see why that would be the case and can also understand why Klich might want to move on due to the fact he’s unlikely to get much game-time this season.

“Klich’s not a starter,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

He played more than I expected him to last year.

With the World Cup coming up in the winter, you look at the squad Leeds have got and the team selection on Saturday [against Wolves].

Klich came on after 65 minutes for Rodrigo but Leeds aren’t competing on that many fronts. They’re not in Europe, they’re not going to have a problem with playing three games a week, squad rotation isn’t going to be a huge problem for the manager.

“With that in mind, I can’t see Klich starting as many games as he would like.

That’s potentially one that Jesse Marsch would look to do and that would free up space in the squad for him.

At Klich’s age and his stage of his career, he’ll want to be playing more regularly.”

Klich has made 180 appearances in all competitions for Leeds since joining from FC Twente in 2017.

Leeds have already sold Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips this summer while Helder Costa has joined Al-Ittihad on a loan-to-buy basis in recent days.

In other Leeds United news, it’s been confirmed that this player has agreed to quit Elland Road.
