Jamie Shackleton urged to quit Leeds United as Sheffield United eye free transfer

Dan Bardell has suggested that Leeds United selling Jamie Shackleton this summer could prove to be beneficial for all parties.

The Whites announced via their official website (7 June) that the club had entered talks over extending the Englishman’s contract which ran out at the end of June.

Adam Pope has reported (27 June) that the 24-year-old is attracting interest from Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United over a potential free transfer.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes a move away from Elland Road could suit the midfielder and Leeds moving forward.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Bardell said: “I think it’s maybe gone a bit stale for him at Leeds.

He might not have progressed the way that they would have hoped. I think it’ll prove to be a good move for him but it isn’t necessarily a loss for Leeds either.

I think they have bigger worries than letting Shackleton go this summer to be honest.

They’ll wish him well after coming through the academy but I wouldn’t be massively worried in this deal if I was a Leeds fan.

Jamie Shackleton set for Leeds United departure

Daniel Farke is set for somewhat of a midfield shift at Elland Road with plenty of transfer incomings and outgoings this summer.

This has already seen Archie Gray leave, with a move to Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on Tuesday (2 July).

Shackleton was one of the first to wish the 18-year-old well as he announced his departure from the club he supports.

The 24-year-old could be set to follow him out the exit door if he can not agree a contract with Leeds in the coming weeks.

Shackleton and Liam Cooper have been offered new deals with no update offered by the Whites despite the transfer window being in full swing.

Leeds United

The Englishman has failed to truly make an impact for Leeds or whilst on loan with Milwall, which means a clean break may make sense.

It is clear that Farke wants to keep him but a move to Sheffield United may prove too tempting for Shackleton this summer.

In other Leeds United news, David Ornstein has reported that the Whites are open to further player sales this summer.
