Jack Harrison ‘frustrated’ under Jesse Marsch as Leeds United exit drama unfolded on deadline day – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Jack Harrison was “frustrated” under Jesse Marsch, according to Paul Robinson, who struggles to understand why the winger was allowed to almost join Leicester City on deadline day.

The Athletic reported on 1 February that Harrison, 26, spent the final hours of the transfer window at Leicester’s training ground, undergoing a medical in case a last-gasp move materialised.

However, it is understood that Leeds eventually pulled the plug on any potential move for the former Manchester City winger, who’s now expected to sign a new contract at Elland Road [Sky Sports].

Robinson doesn’t get why Leeds would be simultaneously open to selling Harrison to a Premier League relegation rival and open to offering him a new contract.

He does, however, believe that there were some issues behind the scenes with now-former manager Jesse Marsch.

“I just don’t understand it,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

I know we’re not privy to inside information but I can’t get my head around how that’s allowed to happen.

You’re either willing to sell the player or not willing to sell the player.

It’s almost like they decided to sell him and then had second thoughts. Either that or they thought they had somebody else coming in.

Jack’s been excellent this season. I think he’s one of the players who was frustrated under Jesse Marsch because he wasn’t guaranteed a regular start.

With a new manager coming in, he’s got an opportunity for a fresh start.

He’s now in the driving seat with his contract with Leicester trying to sign him. He’s the master of his own destiny so if he plays well, he could have other suitors or he could sign a new contract at Leeds.

From a personal point of view, I think he’s in a good position.”

Harrison started the season on fire, scoring one goal and supplying three assists in three Premier League games with talk of a call-up to the England squad seeping into the media.

However, it’s all gone quiet since August, with Harrison directly contributing to just one Premier League goal – an assist against West Ham in January – since.
