‘Interesting to hear’ – Exclusive: Pundit claims ‘exciting’ Leeds move on after manager comments

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson believes that a deal to bring Ryan Kent to Elland Road is on if Leeds are willing to pay the right price.

Rangers have rejected a £10m bid for Kent but while Steven Gerrard said the player is not for sale, he also said Leeds had the power to force a move through.

Kent himself has said he wants to stay at Rangers after a hot start to the season that’s seen him score three goals in five games.

Leeds are now considering returning with a £14m bid.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “Ryan Kent is a very good player and he’d be an exciting addition to the squad at Leeds.

“Leeds have made no secret about their interest, the bid has gone in.

“It was interesting to hear Steven Gerrard talking on talkSPORT the other morning, saying there’s absolutely no way they’ll be selling him and that he wants him to be part of the club’s future for the next five years. Then, in the same breath, he’s saying that he knows Premier League money talks.

“So, if Leeds pay the right price then the deal is there to be done. But Rangers are going to hold Leeds to ransom and they’re going to want a top, top fee because he’s an important player for them.

“Leeds are going to have to pay top dollar. The first bid rejected was £10m, I think the manager will want double that although there could be a disagreement between the manager and the Rangers board on this.”

Gerrard said that the decision over Kent could be taken out of his hand but it remains to be seen if Leeds have the appetite to pay the price that would unlock the former Liverpool attacker.

The winger has been given a much freer role at Rangers this season, that’s seen him play centrally and out on the flanks.

That versatility could convince Leeds to open the wallet wider.
