‘Incredible’ – Exclusive: Pundit delivers promotion verdict as Leeds head back to the big time
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Leeds getting promoted is an “incredible achievement” and almost impossible to put into words.
He also said that there have been plenty of players and managers who haven’t deserved to be at the club in the last 16 years, with Leeds exiled from the Premier League.
Fans are still partying hard and looking forward to marquee signings and fixtures for the 20/21 season.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “It’s an incredible achievement and a long time in the making.
“16 years, 15 managers, five owners… That statement in itself says a lot.
“There have been a lot of players and managers that haven’t deserved to be associated with Leeds United.
“To get out of that and to get back into the Premier League it’s almost impossible to believe. It’s so hard to put into words how much this means to the city.
“Listen, anyone who is employed by the club will have had a party from that Friday night onwards.
“The manager has to take the majority of the credit and the players on the pitch, of course.
“It was very ironic that we got the guard of honour from Derby after what happened last season.
“To be fair, though, it was a nice touch from the Derby owner Mel Morris… he greeted the board of directors with a vintage bottle of champagne from 2004, the last time the team was in the Premier League. That was a touch of class.”
Leeds almost came up last season – Marcelo Bielsa’s first at the club – and were the best team in the Championship this season.
It didn’t always go to plan, not least the three-month delay because of the Coronavirus outbreak, but one thing’s for certain – it’s a season that no Leeds fan will ever forget.
