‘Impressive’ Georginio Rutter gives Leeds United ‘attacking prowess’ amid Ligue 1 links
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …
Exit-linked Georginio Rutter’s changed role for Leeds United shows the club’s new “attacking prowess” amid his links to an Elland Road departure, according to Paul Robinson.
The Whites’ defensive issues continue to be their foil, seen most recently on Tuesday night (29 August) at Daniel Farke’s side slumped out of the EFL Cup against League 2 Salford City. Meanwhile, their attack has been going from strength to strength as more players join the side.
In their emphatic 4-3 victory over Ipswich in the Championship on Saturday (26 August), Leeds showed the full power of their front line, including new recruit Joel Piroe, the reintroduced Willy Gnonto and Georginio Rutter.

As reported by 90mins (29 August), the 21-year-old has been linked with a loan-to-buy move to Ligue 1 giants Lyon, while Sky Sports claimed (29 August) a sale would be sanctioned his £35.5million cost was recouped after a £25million bid from Borussia Dortmund was rejected.
However, Robinson has praised the Frenchman for his new role in Farke’s attack that left him “really impressed”.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “On the flip side, with the attacking prowess that they showed and their forward play has been good, especially with Georginio Rutter playing more like a number 10 and in a slightly deeper position. I was really impressed.
“However, I do think the early signs are there. I know Leeds sit in 13th in the league, and with where we are at the moment.
“But with a performance like that against, let’s not forget, a good Ipswich team that started the season very well, they’re on a really good run.”
In other Leeds United News, the Whites are considering a £5.5million move for a new centre-back.
