Illan Meslier set for final Leeds United chance at Elland Road

David Norris believes Illan Meslier should be given “one last chance” to prove himself as the number one at Leeds United.

The former Whites midfielder believes the Frenchman should be given the nod by Daniel Farke for Friday night’s [18 October] clash with Sheffield United at Elland Road.

Meslier has come under serious fire after his high-profile costly error at Sunderland on 4 October, with Karl Darlow next in line.

“I’d probably give Meslier the benefit of the doubt a little longer,” Norris exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“The pressure is on, but I think if you change him this early in the season, you lose him. Then if you need him back, you don’t know where his confidence will be.

“The fan view on it seems pretty mixed, but I’d give him one last chance to turn it around.”

Illan Meslier to be backed as Leeds United stopper?

A long fortnight for Meslier has been defined by opinions on his position at Elland Road.

Don Goodman stated that the 24-year-old was “not doing well” in the aftermath of the Sunderland trip, while Give Me Sport [9 October] shared that Farke will persist with his usual number one.

Darlow has been away with Wales during the international break, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 Nations League triumph over Montenegro in Cardiff on 14 October.
