Meslier tipped for move to rival club as Leeds United exit cemented – Exclusive
This article includes exclusive comment from former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
Illan Meslier looks set to leave Leeds United sooner rather than later.
Had it not been for Daniel Farke‘s decision to drop the Frenchman last season, this summer could have had a very different feel to it for Leeds.
Meslier’s weekly catalogue of errors saw the Whites drop several points across the campaign, before being replaced by Karl Darlow for the latter stages.
Now, it looks as though the Frenchman has no future at Elland Road, with a transfer agreement now in place ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Lucas Perri arrival will spell end of Meslier’s time at Leeds
Leeds reached an agreement for the signing of Lucas Perri this week, and Paul Robinson thinks that his arrival will almost certainly spell the end of Meslier at Elland Road.
Robinson also added that he believes the keeper could potentially join an English rival.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “I think there’s the potential for him to stay in England, but I think Leeds need to look at that situation as well. I know Karl Darlow’s still there. I think he’s got another year on his deal.
Leeds | Games | Goals conceded | Clean sheets |
Meslier | 39 | 27 | 21 |
“But with Lucas Perri coming in, they’re going to need somebody who can challenge him. He’s had a couple of good seasons at Lyon.
“As far as Mesllier, it won’t be him. He will be leaving the club. He needs a fresh start. He needs a new challenge, whether that be in the UK or back in France.
“I’ve always said he’s a very, very talented goalkeeper. I think mentally he’s struggled with the pressure, and at times mistakes have affected his game whilst playing for Leeds.
“He needs a fresh start, and he needs a fresh set of eyes watching him. And I think he’ll flourish in that situation.”

Perri could be a difference-maker for Leeds
Barring any late hiccups, which, when it comes to Leeds, is not beyond the realm of possibility, Perri will become the seventh summer signing for the Whites and provide an immediate upgrade in a crucial position.
His ability could see the Whites pick up an extra few points over the course of the season, which can often be the difference.
Leeds still have work to do, but his addition would be a massive step in the right direction.
