Illan Meslier could be Leeds United makeweight as Archie Gray admission made

Dan Bardell has suggested that Leeds United could sell Illan Meslier if it allowed them to keep hold of Archie Gray or Crysencio Summervile this summer.

La Provence has reported (28 June) that the keeper is of interest to Marseille this summer under new manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The 24-year-old has a release clause which may be out of their reach and a cheaper deal could be struck with him “enthusiastic” about the move.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes that selling Meslier could potentially make it easier to keep hold of other stars this summer.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Bardell said: “He’s a good goalkeeper, obviously had a difficult season in his last Premier League season but rebuilt his confidence in the Championship.

He feels like he could be a more acceptable loss than some other members of the Leeds first team. He could be an easier player to replace in the Championship than someone like Archie Gray or Summerville.

It may be something that Leeds look at as something that they want to do to raise some funds.

He’s a good young goalkeeper but he seems more replaceable than other players that they could lose.

Leeds United could sell Illan Meslier to Marseille

The financial situation at Elland Road isn’t as bad as first feared when they missed out on promotion from the Championship.

After the loss to Southampton at Wembley, many fans were reserved to the fact the club would lose their best players.

That doesn’t look to be the case this summer after the investment of Red Bull which has offered a financial boost.

With all that being said, a sale may help to make incoming transfer business easier for Daniel Farke to conduct.

Although he had a positive season in the Championship last year, Meslier could prove to be replaceable at Elland Road this summer.

A move would depend on the fee that is offered but Leeds may set their expectations low over a deal to bring some funds in.

Fans won’t want him to leave but if it could help them to keep hold of the likes of Gray and Summerville this summer then it’s a no-brainer.
