We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson is worried about the goalkeeping situation at Leeds United with a move reportedly underway to sign young Belgian shot-stopper Senne Lammens.

Belgian newspaper HLN reported on 8 January (9.07 am) reports that Leeds are in advanced talks to sign the 20-year-old goalkeeper from Club Brugge.

It is understood that Lammens’ contract expires in the summer, meaning the Whites can sign him for what could potentially be a small compensation fee.

Robinson is worried though as he expects Meslier, 22, to leave Leeds in the not-too-distant future, meaning that the goalkeeper options will be weak at Elland Road.

He told MOT Leeds News: “The goalkeeping department isn’t strong enough.

They’ll struggle to keep hold of Meslier because he’s a top-class goalkeeper, every time I watch him he gets better. But they’re going to be tested shortly by some big clubs and some big bids.

He’ll want to play at the top level and I can’t understand why he’s not in the France squad.

At Leeds, Joel Robles isn’t good enough to take over [as first-choice goalkeeper] on a permanent basis and Klaesson isn’t rated highly enough because he’s not been given any time on the pitch.”

Meslier has been linked with Tottenham [TeamTalk], meaning the ex-Lorient ‘keeper could replace Hugo Lloris both in North London and in the France national team following the French captain’s international retirement.
