Ilia Gruev could be out for six months after new Leeds United injury verdict
Leeds United midfielder Ilia Gruev could be out for up to six months with his meniscus injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that if he’s had a trim then he wouldn’t be out for more than two months but if he’s had it repaired, the best case is no less than three months while the worst case could be six months.
The Bulgaria international picked up the injury in the 1-1 draw against Norwich City on 2 October.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said about Gruev: “He has a significant meniscus injury which is the tissue that sits in the knee joint between the femur which is the upper leg bone and tibia, the shin bone.
“The key question for his timeline and rehab will be whether he had a trim or a partial meniscectomy or a repair which involves stitching the torn meniscus part together as the latter is a much longer timeline and more involved rehab but leads to better outcomes.
“If he had a trim, the best case would be around a month and the worst case around two months.
“If it’s a repair, the best case is three to four months while the worst case is around six months.“
Ilia Gruev may not be back for Leeds United before April
Gruev was pivotal to Daniel Farke’s system, making eight league appearances this season for the Whites.
The 24-year-old anchored the midfield and provided much-needed cover to the back line.

It remains to be seen if the Whites enter the January window for another midfielder or if Josuha Guilavogui is good enough for the club’s push for promotion.
In other Leeds United news, an Elland Road target is keen on returning to England and will be available on a free transfer in January.
