We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that playing Liverpool in the first game of the season gives Leeds the best chance of coming away from Anfield with a shock result.
Leeds travel to Liverpool for their first game back in the Premier League for over 16 years.
The game will be played behind closed doors but televised on Sky Sports, with a kick-off time of 5.30pm on Saturday, September 12.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “It’s a difficult game. Liverpool are Premier League champions, we all know how good they are.
“But, after such a strange stop-start season, with such a short break and with no crowd… if there was ever a time to play Liverpool away and potentially beat them it’s the first game of the season.
“Bielsa knows what it takes to get players ready and Leeds have done their business about as quickly as they could have done, bringing in Rodrigo and Robin Koch.
“The international break doesn’t help but Bielsa has obviously put a lot of pressure on Victor Orta to get the signings in as quickly as possible.”
Having an international break this coming weekend will affect both teams, but Liverpool will be hit harder than Leeds.
Marcelo Bielsa will be studying Liverpool for any weaknesses and we think the game will be an exciting one.
Can Leeds come away with three points? That would be a massive shock, with the bookies rating it as a 9/1 longshot. The draw is 5/1 and Liverpool are odds on to start their campaign with a win.
