Ian Darke blown away by Leeds rookie who’s bursting onto the scene – ‘Fantastic’
Harry Gray recently became the latest of his family to don the senior shirt of Leeds United at Elland Road.
Just 16, the forward made his Championship debut late on in the 6-0 hammering of Stoke City, with Daniel Farke’s side now closing in on the title.
Gray, whose older brother Archie has been a shining light in an ailing Tottenham Hotspur side this season, has been involved in first-team training for some time.
And just 24 hours after his celebrations on the pitch with his senior teammates following the 4-0 win over Bristol City, he scored what turned out to be the winner for the Under-21s in the National League Cup final.

Ian Darke suggests ‘£10k bet’ after Gray achievement
Leeds United‘s affinity with the Gray family is a bond that will last forever, and now young Harry, born in October 2008, is carrying the baton.
Gray scored a second-half goal to put Leeds’ Under-21s into a 2-0 lead over Sutton United, managed by former Elland Road flop Steve Morison.
Leeds’ youngsters held on for a 2-1 win in the National League Cup final, just one night after Gray was lapping up the adulation of a packed-out stadium celebrating promotion.
TV commentator Ian Darke, speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, recalled the pleasure of watching a “phenomenal” Eddie Gray in the Don Revie era, and discussed the Gray “dynasty”.
Darke also suggested if he was Harry or Archie’s relative, he would have placed a “£10,000 bet” on them becoming senior internationals when they were born.
“The whole thing with the Gray dynasty and Leeds United is fantastic,” he said.
“It just seems as if there isn’t anyone in that family who can’t play football to an amazingly high level. If I was the grandad or great-uncle of any of the young lads coming through now, I’d have stuck a £10,000 bet on that they’d play international football at some stage in their lives.
“I’m old enough to remember Eddie Gray on the left for Leeds in their heyday, and he was a phenomenal player. It’s good to see another on the production line with young Harry.”
Leeds United sensation could feature on final day
Depending on how Leeds’ final day fixture at Plymouth Argyle pans out, Gray could notch another Championship appearance to his tally.
He’s certainly done his chances no harm with the midweek performance for the Under-21s, though Farke’s men are fixated now on becoming 100-point champions.
Gray family – Leeds United | Time period (as player) |
Eddie Gray | 1966-1983 |
Frank Gray | 1972-1979, 1981-1985 |
Andy Gray | 1995-1998, 2012-2013 |
Archie Gray | 2022-2024 |
Harry Gray | 2025-present |
Leeds will be determined to keep hold of Harry a little longer than they did with Archie – their chances far boosted with their return to the Premier League.
Stand by for the two brothers facing one another in the top flight next season – what a proud day that would be in store for the family.
