‘I personally think’ – Exclusive: Pundit reacts to Leeds star noticeably absent for celebrations

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said he’s surprised that Kiko Casilla played for Leeds in the win against Derby, glad he didn’t play against Charlton and that he personally thinks he should have been made an example of.

Casilla was banned for eight games after being found guilty of racially abusing Jonathan Leko in the game against Charlton in September.

He served his eight-game ban and started in the 3-1 win against Derby, with the title already won.

He didn’t take any part in the 4-0 win against Charlton and was noticeably absent from the title celebrations after the game.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “I’m very surprised he got put in against Derby.

“I don’t think there was any need to bring him back in. I’m delighted that Meslier came back in for the Charlton game. I didn’t expect Casilla would play again.

“I personally think his ban was too light and his fine was too light and I think he should have been made an example of.

“The club have stuck by him which in itself is a big decision but I personally think he should have been banned for a lot longer.

“There’s a lot of positivity around the club at the moment and it was better than he didn’t play any part in the Charlton game.

“With the campaign that’s going at the moment, he shouldn’t be playing.”

When Casilla started against Derby it looked like he had a future at the club but it wouldn’t surprise us if he left over the summer.

Fan sentiment seems to be against him staying and Leeds don’t need any distractions as they focus on the Premier League.

Leeds are set to confirm the permanent signing of keeper Illan Meslier on Thursday.
