Gray caused no issues before Leeds United exit, others may have kicked up fuss

Leeds United should have attempted to keep hold of Archie Gray for one more season, according to David Norris.

Gray was the first high-profile player to depart Elland Road last summer, leaving before the end of June for Tottenham Hotspur to extinguish any immediate PSR concerns.

The 18-year-old had been a regular during 2023-24 in several positions, and was rumoured to be involved in a potential loan return in January.

“Obviously I don’t know behind the scenes, but I’d have liked to see Gray stay one more year,” former Whites midfielder Norris exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“I get why the club felt they had to let him go right at that time, but he’s the one out of the players who left in the summer I was the most fussed about.

“There were obviously issues with Summerville and others on the harmony of keeping them, but I don’t feel like Gray would’ve agitated for a move.”

Leeds United return for Archie Gray unlikely

Gray is not yet a regular at Tottenham, though this was never to be expected.

It has been occasionally discussed that the teenage sensation could return to Elland Road for the rest of the season to temporarily aid the club’s promotion bid, though with Spurs’ recent form Ange Postecoglou may prefer to rotate his side.

Gray has recently started games against Bournemouth, Roma and Galatasaray as he slowly builds more minutes in the team.
