Georginio Rutter links to Germany to seal Leeds United exit after transfer news

Leeds United will be expecting to be “low-balled” with transfer offers this summer, and Georginio Rutter’s links to Germany could see him leave Elland Road, Paul Robinson has said.

The Frenchman arrived at the club from Hoffenheim on a £35million record fee in January 2023, as per Sky Sports, and has since grown to be a much-loved figure at Elland Road.

Jeff Stelling, speaking via talkSPORT on Wednesday (29 May), believes the player’s previous links to the Bundesliga could see him swap the Championship for a return this summer, and Robinson tends to agree.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “There’s nobody who couldn’t leave Elland Road this summer. That’s the problem that Leeds have got. People know the financial situation that they’re in and that they’re still in the Championship.

“Rutter has done well this season after not really getting a look-in last season, coming in at the end of the Premier League campaign. He didn’t hit the ground running but has looked a better player this season.

“He’s flitted between the No.9 and No.10 role, with the manager liking to play him in the latter behind Piroe or Bamford. He’s got himself nine goals this season, which isn’t bad, but you’d expect more.

“Rutter’s got links to Germany. There will be a lot of suitors there – him, Piroe, Gnonto, Summerville, everyone. Leeds are vulnerable to any bid – they could get low-balled with offers. The accounts have to be filed by 30 June so there could be some offers coming in for Leeds players.

“That’s the worrying thing, that no one in the Leeds squad is safe from an offer, an offer that the club couldn’t take.”

Could Georginio Rutter depart Leeds United this summer?

As Robinson states, there are no players at Elland Road safe from transfer bids this summer, and Rutter will be one of the main targets following his campaign in the Championship.

Georginio Rutter in Leeds United kit
Leeds United paid a club-record fee for Georginio Rutter in January 2023.

The 22-year-old finished second for assists in the division, pipped only by Ipswich Town’s Leif Davis, which is likely to spark interest all across Europe for such a talented playmaker.

Daniel Farke will want to keep as many of his young stars as possible, with promotion the main objective next season, but he may have to do that without Rutter.
