Fines and points deductions mooted after Leeds United v Preston – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United
Dan Plumley has insisted that fines and punishment will be the only way to stop incidents in games after Leeds United beat Preston 2-1 at Elland Road on Sunday 21 January.
The finance expert admitted that the extreme end of the scale could end up in points deductions if the FA are serious about bringing down the hammer on teams eventually.
It comes after the referee was surrounded and players started to scuffle after a challenge on Ilia Gruev in the second half against the Deepdale club.
“I think that is the only way you do stop it in the long run,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“If the authorities are serious about cracking down on it, you have to look at fines first and of course, the ultimate sort of sanction remains point deductions, because that’s where no team wants to get him and the fans suffer as well.
“You never know with football and the way things work, we often talk about things that are problems in the game and we need to sort this, we need to do something about that, but nothing ever really happens.

“You get the feeling that if you are going to look to bring the hammer down on it, then it has to be fines first and all the way up then to point deductions if it carries on.”
In other Leeds United news, our Expert also believes that the Whites could fine one of their players after an incident
