Finance Expert reacts to Wilfried Gnonto saga at Leeds United
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Wilfried Gnonto could be hit by two punishments by Leeds United as the saga over his future continues at Elland Road.
The Whites have confirmed that the Italian has refused to play for the club and is now training alone, as he looks to force his way out of the club.
The finance expert admitted that docked wages are the obvious punishment, but it could come with a fine attached to that as well for Gnonto, with the chance to ramp it up even further on top of that.

“You have seen these situations play out with other players in the past,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“The minute it gets out into media circles that he is refusing to play and the club are coming out and saying things like that, it often leads to docked wages, that is the obvious ones.
“It then rumbles on and on as there is disruption to the squad, disruption to matchday, and at some point, despite the fact you don’t want to lose a player, it can become more disruptive than it is worth.
“If a player is trying to force a move through like that then sometimes you see the end result is the club cutting their losses.

“It will be interesting to see how it plays out but certainly, if we’re talking disciplinary action, the obvious one is player wages or at the very least a fine then you can ramp it up from there.”
